Har-Yee Wong, CPCS-Community Services/Adult learning

My name is Har-Yee Wong. I emigrated from Hong Kong twenty one years ago. Before I started my adventures at CPCS, I worked at the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) as a Co-Director for more than twelve years.

Although I had gained experience working in the community, I did not have the skills and credentials to help the organization grow. I felt I was stuck in neutral. Therefore I decided to go back to school. It was Professor Andrew Leong who I knew was a community activist who introduced me to CPCS. After I had learned about their program offered, I enrolled into the program immediately. The program gave me a structure to choose and design my career path, which fulfilled my interests and needs. With Professor Marie Kennedy’s assistance, I designed my own learning plan which was Community Services in Adult Learning. It gave me room to develop my full potential which I had never realized.

Although I was forty-one years old with a family and a full-time job, I followed through and finished the program with a Community Services Award in fewer than four years with much help from extremely dedicated faculty members. I truly appreciated the opportunities that CPCS gave me. Now, I use the skills that I learned from CPCS to serve the public through the Mayor’s Office of Jobs & Community Services. I also have become one of the Co-chairs at CPA to help the organization grow. Indeed, CPCS has brought out the best in me.
